This chapter must be a short one, for what I have to say will not take long to tell, and yet I feel I ought to say it, because I think my young readers will like to know something of the future life of the young people who were together during the happy Christmas time of which I have written. That was some years ago, for I was strong and upright then, and now they not only tell me that my hair is growing gray, but they tell me also that my steps are getting feeble, and I stoop very much as I lean on my black walking cane. The great elms in Chesterton Churchyard seem as fresh and beautiful as ever, but there are changes to be seen amongst the graves beneath their shadow. There are more stones there now than there were at that Christmas time long ago; and next to old May's grave stands a plain cross of pure white marble, "with this inscription on it, --"Sacred to the memory of Edith Melville, aged 20. 'Fallen asleep in Christ.'" Gentle, patient Edith; she never forgot May's dying charge to "give her heart to Jesus," she sought Him and loved Him, and at last died happy in her trust in Him. There is another stone there, more recently erected than the one just mentioned, it bears the names of Mr. and Mrs. Melville, and we know they have gone to join old May and Edith in the Saviour's home. I sometimes go and sit on a tomb-stone near these, and look at the names I know so well, but my poor failing eyes can hardly make them out for the tears that will at times fill them. Sunberry Dale is hardly altered at all, it looks as pleasant and well-kept as ever. Mark and Kate are now the Mr. and Mrs. Melville of the Dale, and another race of "young Melvilles" are filling the old house with mirth and sunshine. I sometimes find a seat in a certain bay-...
