From school punk to modern day film producer Richard Jobson has lived a full and colourful life. A harrowing incident as a child that left him suffering with epilepsy but he was a mere 15 year old when he launched the punk rock band The Skids in 1977 with his songwriting partner Stuart Adamson. He was allowed to go on tour on the condition that he received some education on the road. In 1978 esteemed concert promoter Harvey Goldsmith put on the single biggest, paid one day concert in UK history at the Blackbushe Aerodrome in Surrey with some estimates putting the audience figure at around 250,000. Goldsmith still considers it the high point of his career: "The best event I've been involved in was a performance from Bob Dylan and Eric Clapton at Blackbushe Aerodrome in 1978. It was amazing to see so many people come out to enjoy The Picnic. I think there was around 200,000 people. Even to this day, there's still a buzz about the event, which is extraordinary." Bob Dylan was experiencing a renewed commercial peak and had embarked upon a year-long world tour. The European leg included six nights at London's 17,000 capacity Earl's Court in early June that sold out in hours. Due to demand Goldsmith quickly organised the outdoor show that was dubbed The Picnic At Blackbushe which concluded the European leg of the tour. The line-up was augmented with Eric Clapton, Joan Armatrading and New Wave artist Graham Parker & The Rumour plus Lake and Merger. Demand was phenomenal and Dylan was reportedly paid a performance fee of one million. The largest for a single artist at that time and a staggering amount for 1978. With Dylan having not played the UK mainland for twelve years, his return to Britain was the event of the year. Anyone who was anyone made the effort to be there including New Wave artists such as John Cooper Clarke and members of the Clash and other musicians such as Ringo Starr and Barbara Dickson.
