You'll get answers to your most important questions, including: Which size Poodle is best for me? Which color? How do I know if a Poodle breeder is reputable? What are the pros and cons of shelters and rescue groups? What do I look for in choosing a healthy Poodle? How can I Poodle-proof my home and yard? What's the best way to introduce my Poodle to kids and other pets? How often does my Poodle need grooming?

Hello dear book browser and welcome to Peggy and Me. The story of my life since getting a beautiful Shih-Tzu Bichon Frise cross puppy (I call the breed a Shitty Frise - fun) in the form of Peggy. Some of you may be thinking: "a book about a dog, how totally brilliant, I need hear no more, I'm sold." In which case we should be best friends and go out to tea together, every day. Others of you may be thinking: "a book about a dog, how totally mad, she must have officially lost it." In which case I completely understand. For I once viewed dog owners with much suspicion. The way they obsessively talk about their dogs often using voices for them to reply; the way they have a light covering of dog hair all over their clothes and sofas; and worse, an alarming comfort and ease around excrement. But I now get why people become so mad about their hounds. It wasn't instant love I have to admit. Getting a puppy when I was at a low ebb in my life wasn't easy - there was a lot of challenging, what I call, dog administration (dog-min), and the humiliating first trip to the vet still haunts me. It's been a bumpy old road, but Peggy has been lovingly by my side through some life changing moments and I wouldn't have coped without her. Most surprisingly she has taught me a huge amount - not how to get an old pie packet out of a bin and lick it (I could already do that), but real lessons about life and love and trust and friendship. Put aside any doggy reservations and come walkies with Peggy and me...

Kac Young never imagined that after a lifetime as a 'cat person' she would fall in love with, and adopt, a tiny rescue dog called Talulah. She loved other people's dogs, but "I never had time and they smell funny, lick your makeup off and pee on your new shoes." All that changed when she met Talulah during a trip out with friends and just had to take her home to a house in the forest in California, shared with her partner and six cats and visited by deer, squirrels and skunks. The stories of life as a first-time adopter describe Kac's progression from slightly shell-shocked beginner to savvy, adoring dog guardian.Right from the start, Kac consulted behaviourist Lisa Tenzin-Dolma on all things dog-related, and Lisa's observations and guidance on a wide range of subjects follow Kac's stories, so that those with little experience of living with a dog can get started on the right foot and paw and build a loving, trusting relationship.Entertaining and informative, this book will appeal to both new and seasoned dog guardians.

When Della found a stray dog living wild with her thirteen puppies on a beach in Rhodes she was determined not to get involved. But fate had other ideas and Della brought Lindy back to England. Lindy had already proved herself to be a true survivor, but she was more of a survivor than Della had ever dreamed. Over the next eight years she survived a series of events, any one of which might have finished off a lesser dog than Lindy. They included: being stampeded by a herd of angry cows; a rare life threatening form of anaemia; being swept down the river after chasing ducks; falling out of a car travelling at speed, and getting lost for a night in a forest. The Dog with Nine Lives is both poignant and humorous. Dog lovers will love it. It is the true story of a very special dog.

Confined to a wheelchair but still want a dog - is that a good idea? Indeed it is, as the author - who's wheelchair dependent - ably demonstrates. Here, everything that mobility-impaired potential dog owners need to consider to enable them to own and care for their very own canine companion, even if finances are restricted; or they do not have their own car, carers or helpers, is described and illustrated in detail. Wheelchair and mobility scooter users face their own particular challenges when it comes to dog ownership: how will they walk their dog; train and teach it; play games with it, and all importantly, pick up that poop? From his unique viewpoint, the author answers all of these questions and concerns, and more besides, allowing readers to assess and determine whether they can share their special lifestyle with a dog, and what they can do in preparation of this happy circumstance.
As a twenty-three-year-old veterinarian, William W. Putney joined the Marine Corps at the height of World War II. He commanded the Third Dog Platoon during the battle for Guam and later served as chief veterinarian and commanding officer of the War Dog Training School, where he helped train former pets for war in the Pacific. After the war, he fought successfully to have USMC war dogs returned to their civilian owners.Always Faithful is Putney's celebration of the four-legged soldiers that he both commanded and followed. It is a tale of immense courage as well as of incredible sacrifice. For anyone who has ever read "Old Yeller" or the books of Jack London, here is a real-life story that rivals any fiction. At once a wistful tribute and a stirring adventure, "Always Faithful" will enthrall readers with one of the great animal stories of all time.
