Healthy cooking reinvented by top chef Seamus Mullen, with over 125 Paleo-inspired recipes designed to revitalize your health every day.
In the high-end food world, “healthy cooking” has long been taboo. But as one of the only high-profile chefs today guided by the understanding that the food we eat has a deep impact on our health, Seamus Mullen has rewritten the old rule that healthy can’t be delicious. Seamus’s powerful transformation came out of his own health crisis—after a near-death experience brought on by autoimmune disease he’d struggled with for years, he radically changed the way he cooked, both at his restaurants and at home. As a result, the biomarkers of disease disappeared and the constant trips to the ER he experienced while he was sick have come to an end.
But what Seamus has been surprised to discover is that this new way of eating—dishes starring real, whole foods such as vegetables and fruits, meats used as garnishes, whole grains, fermented foods, and no refined sugar or gluten—has not only controlled his disease but has also made his body feel younger, stronger, and more energized every day. It is his mission to share his brand of cooking with readers everywhere to inspire them to shift their diets and truly redefine what “healthy eating” can and should be.
A powerful manifesto with Seamus’s moving journey at its heart, Real Food Heals is packed with 125 easy-to-prepare, Paleo-inspired, and nourishing recipes packed with delicious whole food ingredients, including Kefir Scrambled Eggs with Grated Garlic; Nori Rolls with Olive Oil, Tuna, Avocado, and Sprouts; and Fig Almond Cacao Nib bars. Complete with a 21-day jump-start meal plan, this unique cookbook will help everyone prepare healthy, irresistible food with big flavors every day and put them on the path to total wellness.

Colin Campbell, PhD, co-directed a study of more than 4 dozen diseases and 367 items of socio-economic, lifestyle, nutrition, and genetic information across a population of 6,500 adults in rural china, generating more that 8,000 statistically significant associations. Those groundbreaking results, along with many other research projects described in the bestselling book, "The China Study, "support the theory that a whole-food, plant-based diet is linked to lower rates of chronic disease. More than a million people across the world have read "The China Study "and have been convinced by empirical evidence to adopt a whole-food, plant-based diet. "The Campbell Plan "goes beyond the "why "and shows readers "how "to make the transition--and enjoy the journey--with practical guidance and a simple plan to make a whole-food, plant-based lifestyle easy and sustainable."The Campbell Plan "is full of the cutting-edge nutritional research that fans of "The China Study "have come to expect. Dr. Thomas Campbell speaks to the reader about health, weight loss, and the science behind it. He also addresses the biggest difficulties of transitioning to a plant-based diet; the most frequently asked questions he receives from patients, practitioners, and readers; and the most cutting-edge research in nutrition. "The Campbell Plan"'s combination of practical tools and the research-based evidence of "The China Study "will change people's lives for generations to come.
When a couple gets pregnant, typically, the first thing the mother-to-be does is rush out to the bookstore to buy the various pregnancy bibles. But how is the expectant father supposed to know what to expect? He could wait in the dark and take his cues from his partner, or he could prepare himself for anything and everything by seeking the counsel of two regular dudes, who have climbed the steep learning curve (and lived to tell) that comes when having a baby. THE DUDES' GUIDE TO PREGNANCY dispenses irreverent, honest, practical advice for the expectant father in an easy-to-understand--and often hilarious--man-to-man format. Taking you through the entire nine month process, the Dudes offer advice on what to expect from your newly pregnant wife (paranoia, morning sickness, enlarged breasts, no sex); the dos and don'ts of dealing with your wife's body and mood changes, your mother-in-law and other family members; and the nitty-gritty details of what is expected of you and how your life will be changing during the next 40 weeks. THE DUDES' GUIDE TO PREGNANCYgives twenty-something to forty-something men the indespensible tools and advice they need to maneuver the many ups and downs associated with impending fatherhood.
For years, this has been a reliable guide for men and women alike. Now in its fifth edition, this revised and updated version has even more information on the benefits of coconut oil and shows readers how to use it for maximum effect, including a nutrition plan with 50 delicious recipes.
What, exactly, do you know about your body? Do you know how your immune system works? Or what your pancreas does? Or the myriad -- and often simple -- ways you can improve the way your body functions? This full-color, visually rich guide answers these questions and more. Matthew MacDonald, noted author of Your Brain: The Missing Manual, takes you on a fascinating tour of your body from the outside in, beginning with your skin and progressing to your vital organs. You'll learn: That you shed skin more frequently than snakes doWhy the number of fat cells you have rarely changes, no matter how much you diet or exercise -- they simply get bigger or smallerHow you can measure and control fatThat your hair is made from the same stuff as horses' hoovesThat you use only a small amount of the oxygen you inhaleWhy blood pressure is a more important health measure than heart rate -- with four ways to lower dangerously high blood pressureWhy our bodies crave foods that make us fatHow to use heart rate to shape an optimal workout session -- one that's neither too easy nor too strenuousWhy a tongue with just half a dozen taste buds can identify thousands of flavorsWhy bacteria in your gut outnumbers cells in your body -- and what function they serveWhy we age, and why we can't turn back the clockWhat happens to your body in the minutes after you die

"It's rare to find a book on any technical subject that is as well written and readable as Your Brain: The Missing Manual. The book covers pretty much anything you may want to know about your brain, from what makes it up, through how it develops to how to mitigate the affects of aging. The book is easy reading, fact packed and highlighted notes and practical applications. So if you want to learn more about your brain, how it works, how to get the best out of it or just want to stave off the ravages of Alzheimers (see chapter ten for details of how learning helps maintain your brain) then I can't recommend this book highly enough."-- Neil Davis, Amazon.co.uk
"MacDonald's writing style is perfect for this kind of guide. It remains educational without becoming overly technical or using unexplained jargon. And even though the book covers a broad scope of topics, MacDonald keeps it well organized and easy to follow.
