for SATB and orchestra or brass Vaughan Williams provided music for royal ceremonies several times during his long career; in the case of this arrangement the occasion was the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. It is a gloriously majestic setting of the hymn 'All people that on earth do dwell' with spectacular brass fanfares and opportunities for congregational singing. There are also calmer moments: verse 4, for example, borrows from John Dowland's setting of the psalm, harking back to the previous Elizabethan age. The work was given its first concert performance by the Halle Orchestra under Sir John Barbirolli in 1957, and a year later was sung at the composer's own funeral at Westminster Abbey. Orchestral and brass material is available on hire. An accompaniment for 3 trumpets, timpani, and organ is also available on sale.
for SATB unaccompanied A liturgical motet for Easter, or Feasts of Our Lady.
An anthem or short choral work for mixed choir (with optional solo soprano) and organ or brass ensemble (3 trumpets, 3 trombones, tuba). The solo soprano line may be played on the organ or trumpet. The solo trumpet can be either part of, or additional to, the brass ensemble. A setting of the single word 'Alleluia' with music which evokes a heightened, joyful tranquillity. Full scores and brass parts are available for hire.
for SATB and piano or small orchestra The story of the journey of Mary and Joseph to the stable in Bethlehem, set against a bleak winter landscape. An accompaniment for small orchestra is available on hire.
for SATB and organ, or orchestra, or brass ensemble An arrangement for SATB choir, which can be sung with the original organ part of the famous Toccata from Widor's Symphony no. 5, a favourite wedding voluntary. Material for the orchestral and brass accompaniments is available on hire.
Suitable for mixed chorus with piano or orchestra.
Standing at the crossroads - the Mississippi crossroads of Robert Johnson and the devil's infamous meeting - Mark Radcliffe found himself facing his own personal crunch point. Aged sixty, he had just mourned the death of his father, only to be handed a diagnosis of mouth and throat cancer. This momentous time in his life, and being at the most famous junction in music history, led Radcliffe to think about the pivotal tracks in music and how the musicians who wrote and performed them - from Woodie Guthrie to Gloria Gaynor, Kurt Cobain to Bob Marley - had reached the crossroads that led to such epoch-changing music. In this warm, intimate account of music and its power to transform our lives, Radcliffe takes a personal journey through these touchstone tracks, looking at the story behind the records and his own experiences as he goes in search of these moments.
