Automatic SIMD Vectorization of SSA-based Control Flow Graphs (Paperback, 2015 ed.): Ralf Karrenberg Automatic SIMD Vectorization of SSA-based Control Flow Graphs (Paperback, 2015 ed.)

Ralf Karrenberg presents Whole-Function Vectorization (WFV), an approach that allows a compiler to automatically create code that exploits data-parallelism using SIMD instructions. Data-parallel applications such as particle simulations, stock option price estimation or video decoding require the same computations to be performed on huge amounts of data. Without WFV, one processor core executes a single instance of a data-parallel function. WFV transforms the function to execute multiple instances at once using SIMD instructions. The author describes an advanced WFV algorithm that includes a variety of analyses and code generation techniques. He shows that this approach improves the performance of the generated code in a variety of use cases.

Photograph - Composition and Color Design (Hardcover, 2nd Revised edition): Harald Mante Photograph - Composition and Color Design (Hardcover, 2nd Revised edition)
Harald Mante

Harald Mante, one of the most distinguished teachers of the photographic arts in Germany and an internationally recognized master of photography, brings his teaching to us in the English language for the first time in more than 30 years. In The Photograph Mante explains the elements that are essential to achieving the highest level of visual design in photographs. This book is geared toward the serious intermediate and advanced photographer who strives to create outstanding images. While a deep understanding of photographic techniques is required in order to master photography, technical knowledge alone is not sufficient to create outstanding images. Beyond the technical aspects, the crucial elements that determine the quality and strength of a photograph are the content of the image and its organization within the image frame. This is where the "art" of photography comes into play. Truly creative photography is based upon knowledge and mastery of design, and insight into how the viewer perceives images. The creative photographer can exploit this knowledge and push image making in new directions. In this book, Mante explores the principles of line, shape, point, color, contrast, composition, and design in significantly greater depth and at a higher level than most any book available to date. He also covers a number of techniques to enhance expressiveness in a photograph and support the photographer's intentions. These in-depth lessons are beautifully illustrated with more than 750 images from Mante's own portfolio, including over 160 diagrams. The Photograph is a unique book that is sure to become an invaluable reference for anyone involved in photography-from the hobbyist to the professional; for both the digital and analog photographer; and for those practicing, studying, criticizing, or administering in the visual arts. This second edition has been extensively revised and updated, and includes 60 new images and illustrations. Also included are new chapters that cover analyzing shapes and colors and a discussion of the square image format.

Edited by a renowned international expert in the field, Nuclear Medicine Physics offers an up-to-date, state-of-the-art account of the physics behind the theoretical foundation and applications of nuclear medicine. It covers important physical aspects of the methods and instruments involved in modern nuclear medicine, along with related biological topics.

The book first discusses the physics of and machines for producing radioisotopes suitable for use in conventional nuclear medicine and PET. After focusing on positron physics and the applications of positrons in medicine and biology, it describes the use of radiopharmaceuticals in molecular imaging, clinical, and research studies. The text then covers modern radiation detectors and measuring methods, including those used in nuclear imaging, as well as numerous imaging methodologies and models, such as two- and three-dimensional image reconstruction algorithms, data processing sequences, new nuclear oncology techniques, and physiological models of the central nervous system. It also introduces biological systems theory, nuclear medicine methods as systems theory procedures, and aspects of kinetic modeling. The final chapter explores dosimetry and the biological effects of ionizing radiation.

With many new developments occurring in nuclear medicine, it is important to understand how advanced approaches are being used in emerging applications. Offering invaluable insight into this growth, Nuclear Medicine Physics provides in-depth descriptions of new radiolabeled biological drugs, new cell labeling techniques, new technical concepts in radiation detection, improvements in instrumentation, and much more.

This book examines the context, motivation and current status of biometric systems based on the palmprint, with a specific focus on touchless and less-constrained systems. It covers new technologies in this rapidly evolving field and is one of the first comprehensive books on palmprint recognition systems. It discusses the research literature and the most relevant industrial applications of palmprint biometrics, including the low-cost solutions based on webcams. The steps of biometric recognition are described in detail, including acquisition setups, algorithms, and evaluation procedures. Constraints and limitations of current palmprint recognition systems are analyzed and discussed. The authors also introduce innovative methods for touchless and less-constrained palmprint recognition, with the aim to make palmprint biometrics easier to use in practical, daily-life applications, and overcome the typical constraints and limitations described. Touchless Palmprint Recognition Systems targets professionals and researchers working in biometrics, image processing and three-dimensional reconstruction. Advanced-level students studying biometrics and computer science will also find this material valuable as a secondary text book or reference.
