Six Sigma Execution - How The World's Greatest Companies Live And Breathe Six Sigma (Hardcover): George Eckes Six Sigma Execution - How The World's Greatest Companies Live And Breathe Six Sigma (Hardcover)
George Eckes
R756 R582 Discovery Miles 5 820 Save R174 (23%) Shipped within 7 - 11 working days

True leadership, asserts Six Sigma authority George Eckes, is devoted to execution. Eckes witnessed firsthand the successful execution of Six Sigma when business leader Jack Welch at General Electric wholly committed to the methodology, adopting it as a true management philosophy. The author also witnessed how a lack of leadership and commitment can derail a Six Sigma initiative - or even doom it to failure before it gets off the ground. In "Six Sigma Execution", Eckes draws on his vast professional experience to describe the business acumen and leadership skills needed to effectively incorporate Six Sigma into an organization's DNA, executing initiatives throughout the entire company. He delivers a practical blueprint that simulates the training and coaching sessions used with his own clients, providing you with the dialogue, tools, tactics, and cautionary advice you can use to spearhead and deploy a Six Sigma effort of any size.In this book, you will discover the characteristics of top Six Sigma leadership as Eckes chronicles the history of the approach from its inception when Bob Galvin incorporated Six Sigma into Motorola's operations to Larry Bossidy, who linked Six Sigma to strategic business objectives at AlliedSignal and Honeywell to GE's Jack Welch, who was the first to truly create a Six Sigma culture. Also addressed is the work of Jeff Immelt, James McNerney, and others.Eckes cites both positive and negative examples of companies that have operationalized Six Sigma, and goes on to deliver clear guidelines for: actively involving management in the Six Sigma process; linking Six Sigma to your company's strategic goals; selecting team leaders and establishing goals for project teams; using Adult Learning Theory to execute Six Sigma training and coaching in a more accessible, efficient manner; using the Define, Measure, Analysis, Improve, Control (DMAIC) method to deliver solutions for problem areas at any phase of implementation; and, avoiding common pitfalls of Six Sigma deployment.Complete with DMAIC breakouts, tables, and inter and post session deliverables, "Six Sigma Execution" is a breakthrough, hands-on guide to duplicating the success of the Six Sigma pros in your company. Join the ranks of the pros - make Six Sigma a cultural phenomenon in your organization. General Electric, AlliedSignal, Motorola - You've heard how these top companies increased their efficiency and productivity by successfully implementing Six Sigma in their organizations. You may also have heard how companies such as United and American Airlines failed in their Six Sigma efforts. So what made the difference? How did Six Sigma deliver such strong results for certain companies? And how can you ensure an effective execution in your organization? The answers have one thing in common, asserts Six Sigma professional George Eckes: strong, committed leadership. In his latest breakthrough book, "Six Sigma Execution", bestselling author Eckes reveals the leadership skills necessary to manage and maintain a Six Sigma initiative in your organization. Eckes delivers solutions that senior and middle managers can use to effectively deploy a company-wide program, identifying the challenges business leaders face in a Six Sigma world. You'll discover: how top executives such as GE's Jack Welch, AlliedSignal's Larry Bossidy, and Motorola's Bob Galvin shaped the cultural aspect of implementing Six Sigma and executed initiatives across an entire organization; management do's and don'ts on everything from linking Six Sigma to your company's strategic goals to creating a Six Sigma culture to seamlessly rolling out organization-wide initiatives; why certain companies stumbled when it came to execution - and how to avoid those same pitfalls; and, take lessons from the pros. "Six Sigma Execution" is your one-stop resource for successful implementation across your organization.

Systems Design and Engineering - Facilitating Multidisciplinary Development Projects (Paperback): G. Maarten Bonnema, Karel T.... Systems Design and Engineering - Facilitating Multidisciplinary Development Projects (Paperback)
G. Maarten Bonnema, Karel T. Veenvliet, Jan F. Broenink
R919 Discovery Miles 9 190 Shipped within 7 - 12 working days

As its name implies, the aim of Systems Design and Engineering: Facilitating Multidisciplinary Development Projects is to help systems engineers develop the skills and thought processes needed to successfully develop and implement engineered systems. Such expertise typically does not come through study but from action, hard work, and cooperation. To that end, the authors have chosen a "hands-on" approach for presenting material rather than concentrating on theory, as so often is the case in a classroom setting. This attractive and accessible text is a mix of theory and practical approach, illustrated with examples that have enough richness and variability to hold your attention. Models are presented for controlling the design, change, and engineering processes. Various aspects of systems engineering and methods providing the big picture at system level are discussed. In some ways, you can think of the book as a compact "starter's kit" for systems engineers. Although the authors are recognized experts in academic settings, they attribute much of their success in systems engineering to their own hands-on experiences and want to show you how to achieve that same level of expertise. Simply reading this book or any other book will not suffice for the learning process to become a systems engineer - no book will do that. However, by following the principles laid out in this book, you can develop the necessary skills and expertise to help you start an interesting, challenging, and rewarding career as a systems engineer.

This book examines the quality movement from a holistic perspective that is unique. It will serve as an invaluable handbook both for students and for those interested in enhancing quality in their own organisations. Practical illustrations are combined with a comprehensive and systemic overview of the extraordinary story of how Japanese industrialists adopted and developed the ideas of American quality gurus only to then find their own methodologies being exported to the USA and the rest of the world. The authors are leading Swedish academics with many years of experience in the quality field. The book is divided into five fairly independent parts. In Part I the quality concept and the evolution of the quality movement are examined. Furthermore, the relation between quality improvements, on one hand, and costs, profitability and success, on the other is illustrated. Parts II deals with methodologies and tools, which facilitates a customer focused product development. Among these are Quality Function Deployment, Reliability, Design of Experiments, and Robust Design. Part III focuses on the concept of variation and on methodologies and tools for quality improvements in the design and production processes. The seven improvement tools, statistical process control, capability, and supplier partnership are discussed. Part IV deals with satisfaction and loyalty of external and internal customers, what these concepts mean and how to measure them. In Part V focuses on the important role of management for quality improvements is discussed as well as the concept of leadership. Furthermore, processes, process management, Six Sigma, Lean Production, Quality Awards and quality management systems are elucidated. Finally, the book ends with a discussion of the importance of quality management in order to create a sustainable society.

David Hutchins
R809 Discovery Miles 8 090 Shipped within 7 - 12 working days

Perceptions as to the nature of the Quality Sciences and disciplines vary across the world depending on local industrial history. This can cause problems for global organisations who often want to retain the quality policies of the parent company whilst attempting to embrace the approaches familiar to local people. For example, whilst Western organisations have embraced Six Sigma, Lean and other Japanese management techniques, we have tended to adopt them in a hotchpotch fashion, bolting them on without ever understanding the context behind total quality control. In Japan, these concepts are not considered to be standalone but are all part of a seamless companywide matrix of interactive concepts, which can be summed up as company-wide quality work, of, by and for all. In essence, this means that `quality' is everybody's responsibility from the chief executive downwards. David Hutchins has over several decades worked in all of the cultural blocks and has consistently managed to integrate all of these differences into a single companywide approach. When the concepts covered are integrated into a total company-wide programme, the intention is to make that organisation the best in its business; in Japanese terms this implies `Dantotsu', which means `number one thinking'. Accessible and practical in approach, Quality Beyond Borders is split into short sections, each representing a self-contained idea for the reader to digest and reflect on. It is a valuable resource for business practitioners, students and academics alike that will enable you to reach beyond your own borders to implement new ideas with significant results.

This book introduces the reader to both neurolinguistics per se and the neuropsychological aspects of bilingualism. Neurolinguistics may roughly be defined as a subset of neuropsychology, namely the study of the representation and processing of language in the brain. To this effect, the first chapters of the book focus on the basic neuropsychology of language processing and acquisition. The second half of the book addresses the issues of cerebral representation and processing of language in bi-or multilingual subjects. All aspects are systematically dealt with, namely the definition of bilingualism; an analysis of all the issues related to bilingual aphasia, i.e. patterns of recovery of the patients' carious languages in diverse population; an investigation of the methodologies used in the study of the neuropsychological aspects of the various linguistic functions, such as comprehension, production and translation; and lastly, the issues of cerebral lateralization and neuroanatomical localization of the numerous cortical and subcortical structures subserving the various language system components in multilingual subjects. It is an excellent introduction to both the neuropsychology of language and the phenomena related to bilingualism. This book will be of particular interest to students of language therapy, aphasiology, applied psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics and, in general, to students of medicine who wish to become more knowledgeable about the specific needs of patients in a multilingual society.
