The subject of this work is controversial, but its message is simple: the study of UFOs merits the serious attention of the intellectual establishment. Advocating credibility for this much-maligned field of research, historian David Jacobs and his coauthors highlight some of the key events, issues, themes and theories surrounding this elusive and complex subject. Whether interplanetary tourists, interlopers from a parallel universe, or mere misfirings in the brain, UFOs and ""aliens"" permeate popular culture. They have made the covers of ""Time"", ""Life"", and the ""New York Times Book Review""; garnered CNN coverage; turned up on ""Larry King Live"" and other high-profile talk shows; attracted large audiences for TV's ""X-Files"" and ""Roswell"", and for films like ""ET"", ""Independence Day"", ""Men in Black"" and ""Close Encounters of the Third Kind""; and swamped the Internet with thousands of websites and discussion groups. Despite this pervasive presense, few scholars have been willing to study the perplexing phenomena behind these cultural signifiers. Wary of a field that seems tainted by suspect methods and outlandish theories, many have logically stayed away. The relative lack of academic participation, however, creates a vicious circle that prevents the development of standards that would attract greater academic participation and, thus, credibility and funding for the field. Meanwhile, the phenomenon, rather than fading from public awareness, continues to grow and evolve. In response, this volume provides a kind of primer for scholars, skeptics and others uneasy about investigating this field. Its authors examine the nature of UFO ""evidence""; discuss the methodological debates; incorporate research from science, history, mythology and psychology; and highlight the reactions of the government and military from the Cold War to the present. It also brings together three bestselling authors - Jacobs, Budd Hopkins and Pulitzer Prize-winner John Mack - widely known for their writings on the highly controversial ""alien abduction"" phenomenon.
New Hampshire couple Betty and Barney Hill provided Americans with what is essentially the original alien abduction story. Since their story became public in the early 1960s, many thousands of Americans have likewise come forward with similar stories of traumatic experiences. Sometimes the abductee has little conscious recollection of these events, but through nightmares, dreams, flashbacks and hypnosis they eventually learn more. Sometimes the participants are bewildered. To get a better understanding of the opposing viewpoints of skeptic and believer, the Betty and Barney Hill case is used to examine the wider context of such encounters, their historical origins, media influences and the latest extraterrestrial, psychological, paranormal, conspiracy and sociological theories that surround them.
Although there is a chance that certain planets may be habitable for life, the moons of planets might have even more to offer. The icy moons of Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune have taught us important lessons about new volcanic forms-cryovolcanism-and the bizarre landscapes sculpted by those erupting geysers. Glaciers, ice mountains, and vast canyons mold the faces of these worlds of ice and thunder. Yet, many ice moons and dwarf planets, including Ceres and Pluto, are in fact sea worlds, hiding deep oceans beneath their ice crusts. This book explores the frozen worlds beyond Mars, delving into the interior forces of migrating ice diapirs, seafloor volcanism and tidal friction, which help form the landscapes found above and biologically friendly environs buried below. It covers the latest research in the field and includes interviews with today's foremost authorities, including astrobiologists Chris McKay (NASA Ames), Ralph Lorenz (Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory) and Karl Mitchell (Jet Propulsion Laboratory). Original art by the author enhances the concepts explored in the text, recreating some of the most remarkable landscapes on icy planets and moons.
Is life on earth a "cosmic joke"-- a unique, one-time occurrence? Or is life a "cosmic imperative"? Scientists and governments are vigorously searching for signs of life in the universe, but what would (and should) we do if they meet with success? Celebrate? Panic?
Paul Davies ponders the many ramifications of contact with extraterrestrial life, giving the general reader the latest and most scientifically sound thinking on this hot topic in the field of astronomy. As fascinating and readable as any science fiction novel, "Are We Alone?" delves deep into profound ideas in mathematics and philosophy, taking the layperson on an interstellar journey through issues in quantum theory, mind and matter, consciousness and time. Readers will be glued to the page as they learn why Davies believes that "they're out there" -- and what that implies.

Says the channel: "Just as many are called and few are chosen, likewise many who read this book will neither understand nor receive the information. But those special souls for whom it is intended will rejoice in its guidance and accept its timely and imperative revelations.
"This information is not not entertainment. It is comparable to sealed orders given to dedicated volunteers on a strategic mission. It is dispersed to them, compiled for them and will be charished by them. It is neither defended nor justified. It is data recorded as given and passed to those for whom it is intended."

Convincing evidence that the Egyptian, Sumerian, and Dogon
civilizations were founded by aliens from the Sirius star system
who are now ready to return
One of the most ambitious works of paranormal investigation of our
time, here is an unprecedented compendium of pre-twentieth-century
UFO accounts, written with rigor and color by two of today's
leading investigators of unexplained phenomena.
For over fifty years an incident near Roswell, New Mexico, has
sparked the imaginations of UFO enthusiasts. Did the military
recover a crashed "flying saucer" there, along with several
extraterrestrial bodies? Has the government gone to great lengths
to hide the evidence? Over time these speculations have reached the
status of unquestionable truths in the minds of many ufologists.
What happens when the history books are wrong? The United States Government wants you to not question the narrative that, in some cases, has been written by them for more than a century. But sometimes, real facts emerge from declassified documents that challenge what you thought you knew. This book dissects some of the most amazing declassified documents that have changed the history of the world and our perception of it. With each turn of the page, Secrets from The Black Vault reveals declassified programs and formerly top secret illustrations that detail an Air Force's secret plan to build a Mach 4 flying saucer; the Department of Defense's plan to detonate a nuclear bomb on the surface of the moon; the use of psychic spies within the CIA; how an unidentified object almost sparked World War III; and much more. Declassified documents within The Black Vault play a crucial role in understanding the inner workings of America's top secret agendas.
From the Earth's atmosphere to the edges of our Universe, the presence of dust is ubiquitous. One of the main challenges in studying dust in these various environments is thus to harmonize the diverse research techniques and results, including in-situ measurement, remote observation, laboratory experiments and modelling, and analysis of returned samples. For the first time in over a decade, this volume accomplishes exactly that, providing an overarching picture of the current state of dust science and research. Where possible, the papers in this volume emphasize the interconnections, similarities, and differences in the field, synthesizing results from several techniques into one cohesive view. Importantly, astrobiological connections have now been considered. The dust hazard, future technology and research, and space mission requirements and scenarios are also addressed. The outcome of this endeavor is an interdisciplinary compendium with a unified perspective on cosmic dust science. UFO phenomena entered American consciousness at the beginning of the Cold War, when reports from astonished witnesses of encounters with unknown aerial objects captured the attention of the United States military and the imagination of the press and the public. But when UFOs appeared not to be hostile, and when some scientists pronounced the sightings to be of natural meteorological phenomena misidentified due to "Cold War jitters", military interest declined sharply and, with it, further overt scientific interest.;Yet sighting reports didn't stop and UFOs entered the public imagination as a cultural myth of the 20th century. Brenda Denzler's comprehensive, clearly written and compelling narrative provides the first sustained overview and valuation of the UFO/alien abduction movement as a social phenomenon positioned between scientific and religious perspectives. Demonstrating the unique place ufology occupies in the 20th century nexus between science and religion, Denzler surveys the sociological contours of its community, assesses its persistent attempt to achieve scientific legitimacy and concludes with an examination of the movement's metaphysical or spiritual outlook. Her book
Bridge the Christian religion-science gap as The Reverend Doctor Joel Graves explores what the Bible says, what it means, and what it might mean-especially in the near future. This theological speculative study of the Bible takes the reader into the nature of the universe and how it works scientifically, the problem with evolution, the Neanderthal, Sasquatch, even the presence of space aliens and where they come from. The Bible describes a great starship-1,380 miles to each side-on its way to Earth: learn about the size, composition, method of travel, possible purposes, and most importantly, when it will arrive. Discover the great war between ancient alien factions-who they are, where they came from, their future plans, and the role of humans caught in the middle. Examine the mysteries, facts, clues, and allusions found in the world, but especially in the Bible.
