Each department should have its own letter heading. The publicity matter should also be kept in the stationery store, and the same system of accounting applied. Stationery for departmental purposes, such as memos, forms, wages sheets, should consist of a strong or cheap tinted bank paper according to the importance of the purpose for which it is used. For the Generating Station a buff tint; the Sales Department pink; the Mains Department blue; and the Secretary and Accountant and General Manager white. This will greatly facilitate handling and filing. Tinting can be further employed with advantage in each department, for instance, each agreement and hire form used for a different purpose is differently tinted. An apparently small point but of great value upon occasion and always useful when reprints are required, is to have printed on all forms and papers, in an inconspicuous position, the distinguishing letter and number of the form, the number ordered, and the date, for example: --E 56/10,000/12/12. This will be noticed on several of the forms illustrated in this and following chapters. The Stationery Clerk also has charge of stamps, and there is a proper accounting system for these. In his charge are also the registers recording incoming and outgoing letters, and the names of persons to whom they have been referred by the General Manager. CHAPTER VIII.
