Psychological Aspects of Disaster (Paperback)

,
For many it seemed that in Britain in the 1980s disasters happened too frequently and too few lessons were being learned. A succession of enquiry reports often revealed similiar problems and pointed to measures that could have prevented tragedies remaining ignored. The British Psychological Society produced a set of recommendations to address the concerns raised. Many people contributed evidence and their views to the working party. This book draws upon the contributions of those who survived, helped, responded and evaluated recent events. The contributors to this book consider human factors in the prevention of disasters, response to disasters when they happen, recovery from the disaster situation and mitigation of disasters. Some disasters are preventable and response to them can be more effectively focused to improve the prospects for recovery of those involved.
