This is the story of David Young (MC)and his spirit, love and courage whilst being held as a prisoner in Germany from 1940 until 1945. Having been shot down over France in December 1940, he then spent the rest of the war trying to escape from various POW camps which would eventually lead to him being awarded the Military Cross for bravery. David was determined to return to Veronica, a young lady that he had come to know. His 'Long March Home' was successful and on his return, they were married in May 1945. The main part of this story - David's Odyssey - has been taken from his diaries and is supported by Veronica's later notes. Further interest is added with a chapter from 'The Hampden File' (Air Britain) of the bomber's crash landing and David's survival. Included are many contemporary local newspaper items and pictures, and a chapter about David's great involvement with the Greenock ATC - No 49f Squadron. The true Odyssey of a modest local hero.
