Not illustrated. 1903 Excerpt: ...is a valuable antiseptic, comparatively harmless to man. Di-iodo-thymol (aristol), C20hmo2i2, is Used in medicine, as an antiseptic, etc. Preparation.--The residue Methyl, CH3, unites directly with methyl to form ethane, C2H6. Similarly the benzene residue Phenyl, C6H5, unites with phenyl to form the hydrocarbon diphenyl, C12H10, and similar residues of toluene, and higher aromatic hydrocarbons unite to form a homologous series. Diphenyl is easily formed by the action of sodium on brom-benzene. THE CAMPHORS (STEAROPTENS). NAPHTHALIN. H H I I H-C 0 C-H M. F., C10H8; M. W., 128; G. Structural Formula.--all aH Properties.--Its relation to naphthalin is the same as that of phenol to benzene. Isomeric Forms.--Two, /3-naphthol is used in medicine, a-naphthol is not.
