Stereolab - One Note Samba (Paperback)

Over the course of nearly a decade, Stereolab have repeatedly released music that has stretched many conventional parameters and, despite their lack of loftier chart placings, has led to many observers rating them in the same breath as The Velvet Underground and John Cage. Formed in the early 90s in south London, the prime mover of the band is Tim Gane, over the years Gane has been joined by a multitude of fellow members, always pushing the edges of commercially accepted music. Their fiercely independent stance and peculiarly English digressions into music's mistier reaches has nevertheless earned them a substantial following across the world, and not the least in America. Their unrelenting creative rate has thrown up such odd but compelling works as John Cage Bubblegum, Transient Random Noise-Bursts With Announcements and Emperor Tomato Ketchup. Despite the pseudo-comedy names, these records display a breadth of vision and courage of experimentalism that hankers back to the heady 70s proto-punk scene
