Where are a angular couplings most used? A. To connect shafts which are not parallel. Q. What is a hanger? A. It is a projecting or pendant support for the shaft bearing. Q. What is a drop hanger? A. One which "hangs" properly; that is, is pendant from the ceiling, or from an overhead support. Q. What is a post hanger? A. One which projects from post or wall. Q. What is a split hanger? A. One in which the lower portion of the bearing can be removed so as to let the shaft drop out without having to back it out endwise. Q. What advantage is there in transmission by belts? A. It gives a certain amount of flexibility to the system, permitting of gradually starting and stopping, and in case of clogging of the machinery, the belts will generally slip and lessen the damage done.
