Disposed the army in garrison. Went to Cashel. Took the castle of Sangically from the Spaniards. His head quar-ters at Adare. Joined Lord Deputy 1579-80. (Cox, 1. 362.) See PELHAM. Dislodged from Adare, and marched to Buttevant. A strange sickness seized his army Aug. 1580. Divided his army into two parts; marched with one half to Castle Island, the other half he sent to Traley in Kerry, where they all met, then divided them into three parts, and drove the whole country before him; took a prey of 8,000 cows, &c., 1580. Agreed to a cessa-tion for eight weeks 22 Dec. 1597. Proposed conditions of pardon to Tyrone 15 March 1597-8. The pardon drawn bears date 11 April 1598, but it is believed he never came for it, because he immediately relapsed. (Cox, 1. 414.) Bagnall being defeated and killed by Tyrone, blamed by the Queen that he was not there, 12 Sept. 1598. (Cox, 1. 415.) A commission to him to treat with Tyrone, having asked mercy, 1599. (Irish MSS.)
