Excerpt: ... Proper Terms for the Noises of Hounds. When hounds are first cast off, and find some game or chace, we fay they challenge. Jf they are too busy before they find the scent good, it is faid they babble. . If they run it end-ways, orderly, making it good, and then hold in together merrily, they are faid to be in full cry. When spaniels open in the string (or a grey-hound in Different Terms for Hou Of grey-hounds two make a brace; of hounds a couple; of grey-hounds three make a least}; and of hounds a couple and a half; they fay let jlip a grey-hound, and cajl off a hound. They call the string, wherein a grey-hound is led, a lease; and that of a' hound, a learn, Ham, or lyome. The grey-hound hath his collar, and the hound his couples. Those places are called entries where they find a deer has lately pasted into thickets, by which they guess at their largeness, and then put the hounds or beagles thereto for their view.
