He was the first of all the Orators before him that died in his place. the Right and Privileges of the University. As for those that have borne the Office of Keeper, have been these: XIII. Henry Hammond, D. D. lately Fellow of Magdalen College, elected Mar. 17, 1644-5; by virtue of which election he then became Canon of Christ Church. (2) Edward Corbet, M. A. lately Fellow os Merton College, was put into the Oratorsjip and Canonry of Christ Church belonging thereunto 'Jan. 20, 1647, by order of the Committee of Parliament. () Ralphe Button, sometime of Exeter College andB.A. there, Geometry Profjfor in Grejham Coll. London M. A. Fellow of Merton College, and Proclor of the University, succeeded in both those places upon Dr. Corbet's giving them up, by order from the said Committee, Aug. 4, 1648. He was afterward ejected by the King's Commissioners. See more of him in the List of Protfors. XIV. Robert South, M. A. Westm. Student of Christ Church, elected Orator by the Convocation Aug. 10, 1660, but was not made (1) W, Strode was installed Canon July i, where continuing several months, was at length 1638; died Mar. 10, 1645, and was buried in released. Whereupon retiring to Weftwood in the Divinity Chapel at Christ Church. Worcester, the feat of the Joyal Sir John Pack 2) H. Hammond' in 1633 had the Rectory of ington (to which place he had received a civil Penshurlt in Kent conferred upon him by '.he Earl invitation) remained there, doing much good to of Leicester became 1640 a Member of the the day of his death, Apr. 25. 1660; whereupon Convocation of the Clergy; and in 1643 was his body was buried in the Chancel of Hampton made Archdeacon of Chiches...
