P. checking, because Black could have escaped with his Bishop, and then have prevented the Kt. from getting away, thus gaining two minor pieces for the Q.'s Rook. (b) An unaccountable slip. He should have moved his King to a Black square. (c) Apparently his best move. If he retired, the other B. Black could have answered with R. to K. sq., winning back a piece; and if R. to Kt. sq., then Kt takes Q. B. P., winning a P. and the exchange. CHESS IN SCOTLAND. Game played between Gamma and Delta, two of the best players in Dumfrieshire. Notes. (a) This ingenious but hazardous variation on the Bishop's Gambit we owe to M'Donnell. (6) This is an imprudent move. (c) This also is unadvised, as it enables White to bring his K. R. into immediate co-operation with the other Pieces. (d) The terminating moves of White are very skilfully conceived. CHESS IN THE METROPOLIS. Mr. Perigal gives the Pawn and two moves to Mr. Medley. Remove Black's K. B. P. from the Board.) Notes. (a) This move seems to add to the constraint of Black's position. b) P. to K. R. 3d, we believe to be stronger.
