In O&ober i6th the poftman is dated to have been removed from the Infirmary Newgate to his own room, where he died; by whofe order was that?--He was well enough, apparently, to be removed, and he thought he fhould be happier in his own room, which was on the ftate fide; it was not an infectious fever. On the 2oth of November Alderman Wood ftates that the rain penetrated every window and roof; has that been mended?--It has been endeavoured to be mended, but the roof is fo generally bad that it muft undergo a thorough repair, which it cannot until we get rid of the debtors j they are continually patching it. In bad weather does the wet penetrate into the lower rooms?--Into the upper rooms very frequently, and fo downwards; it penetrates alfo into my houfe, and the furveyor on examination fays, that there is the dry rot. There is an order that no children above the age of two years fhall be permitted to vifit the criminal prifoners more than once a week; is that obferved?--It is. Is it an occafional vifit, or are they allowed to remain?--An occafional vifit; but the fame evil that always had exifted ftill continues j for when the women get their children in they will not part with them. Have not you occafionally orders for the admiifion of children within the week?--Yes. What has been the reafon for the order of exclufion except once a week?--The idea is, that they mail not be coming there to have their morals corrupted.
