Such changes of residence have been adopted as will give all the men the benefit of attending the services of some Protestant Evangelical minister, but in no degree will their ordinary operations be injuriously affected by the arrangement. The Committee requested their Secretary, the Rev. S. B. Bergne, to visit the Society's Agencies in Eastern Europe and elsewhere, in the autumn of last year, and it was thought desirable that he should spend a few days in Paris, in order to be present at a conference between M. Monod, the Rev. G. P. Davies, of Berlin, and Mr. Kirkpatrick, of Brussels. As there are certain details relating to editions of the Scriptures and other matters which are common to the three districts, it was proposed that the Agents should consult together personally, and send up joint recommendations to the Committee. The meeting was especially welcome to M. Monod, who was anxious to benefit by the larger and riper experience of his colleagues. Two or three days were spent in discussing various questions of importance, and a full report of the proceedings was drawn up for the information and sanction of the Committee. The forenoon of one day was devoted to an interview with the colporteurs labouring in and near Paris. Eleven members of the staff came together, some of whom had seen a considerable amount of service, and had been shut up in the capital through the long and wearisome days of the siege. The youngest of the group was thirty years of age and the oldest sixty-two. Most were in the prime of life--full of activity and vigour.
