pleasing. Apparatus of National Fire Appliance Company Docs Good
Work. The National Fire Appliance Company reports the following
fires discovered by their appliances and announced to the various
fire departments, during the three months ending April 1:
Manchester, N. H., 1; Springfield, Mass., 2; Lynn, 12; Milford, 1;
Haverhill, 3; Leominster, 1; Worcester, 2. Special Agent Wllklns
Goes to 27 Kilby Street. Clarence H. Wilklns special agent of the
Franklin of Philadelphia, has removed from 19 Central St., where he
has been located for several years to 27 Kilby St., where he will
share the office of state agent Wetberbee, of the Home, of New
York. GENERAL INSURANCE NEWS. ADVOCATES REVISED ANTI-COMPACT LAW
FOR OHIO. Commissioner Vorys of Ohio suggests in his report that
the state legislature either amend tho general antitrust law so as
to make it apply to fire insuranoe rates or else enaot a new law
forbidding combinations to fix rates. As the supply of fire
insuranoe in Ohio is already insufficient to meet the demand, Mr.
Vorys recommends that the punishment for violation of the law
suggested be limited to a substantial tine, since the revocation of
a company's license would make it still more difficult for business
men to secure insuranoe. After reviewing existing conditions, the
commissioner says: If it Is the policy of tblu atste to forbid
every combination to fix fire insurance rates by any and all who
may have any control over them, then if the views respecting the
law hereinbefore referred to are correct, It would seem that no
very clear authority has been declared for effectuating such policy
against the above described or like systems of maintaining rates.
