Excerpt: Belarusian Cup 200809 is the eighteenth season of the Belarusian annual cup competition. Contrary to the league season, it is conducted in a fall-spring rhythm. The first games were played on July 30, 2008. Winners of the Cup will qualify for the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round. A premiliary round was held in order to reduce the number of teams in the First Round to 32. All fourteen teams of the Belarusian First League entered as seeded teams in this round. They had to play against a lower division team (Second League or amateur cup champions). In the remaining two matches contested Second Division teams only. The games were played between July 30 and August 6, 2008. All sixteen teams of the Belarusian Premier League entered as seeded teams in this round. They were drawn against the winners of the First Round. The games were played between September 3 and 7, 2008. Winners of the Second Round competed in the Third Round. The games were played as two-legged ties. The first legs were played on October 11, 12, 29 and November 4, 2008. The second legs were played on November 2 and 20, 2008.
