Cannon AFB was established in 1942 as Army Air Base, Clovis and is named for General John K. Cannon (18921955), a former commander of Tactical Air Command. The commander of the 27th Special Operations Wing is Colonel Stephen A. Clark. The Command Chief Master Sergeant is Chief Master Sergeant William W. Turner. Cannon is the home of the 27th Special Operations Wing (27th SOW). The 27th SOW, activated Oct. 1, 2007.
