Excerpt: The European route E 73 is a Class-A north-south European route that connects the central part of the continent with the Adriatic Sea. This 710 km (440 mi) route is also designated as Corridor Vc (Corridor 5c), a branch of the fifth Pan-European corridor. E73 connects three countries, stretching from Budapest, Hungary, via eastern Croatia, bisecting Bosnia and Herzegovina, ending in the Croatian port of Ploe. The highway route is currently being upgraded in all three countries. The corridor does not only feature the highway, but rail upgrades and airports of significance along the way. The longest part of this corridor goes through Bosnia and Herzegovina and is widely touted as a road instrumental to the development of the country. The road also connects the eastern and southern parts of Croatia directly. E73 in Hungary starts at Budapest and continues south along the M6 highway to the Croatian border. In Hungary the E73 passes near these cities: As of April 2010, 179 km (111 mi) stretch between the M0 Budapest beltway and B ly is constructed as a modern motorway. The remaining 19 km (12 mi) between B ly and the Croatian border is planned to be constructed by 2013. The Croatian part of E73/Corridor Vc is divided into two parts: the northern and the southern one. The Croatian parts of the route, while 112 km long, together form only 18% of the total length of the route. The northern Croatian part of the E73 is signed as A5 highway. It is 88.6 km long and intersects A3 highway. Seven highway interchanges are planned.
