Excerpt: Nee Zara Ylmaz (born January 15, 1976), commonly known as Zara, is a popular Turkish Folk Music singer and actress. She was born in Adyaman, Turkey, in 1976. She completed her higher education in Singing Department of the Turkish Music State Conservatory at Istanbul Technical University. In 1996, in competition of Music and Folk-Dance was organized by Milliyet among high schools she became head of Turkey in the branch of Turkish Folk Music Lady Soloist. Particapating in the same competition in 1993, she came first again. In 1996, she passed the examination of Professional Singer organized by TRT and started work as contract singer of Turkish Folk Music. With the role of Amber, as a player and soloist, she took part in the Yunus Emre Musical which was staged at the Atatrk Culture Center in 1997. In 1998, she put on the market her album called Avuntu (Consolation) as a product of a 15 months work. In the same year, she played a leading role with Tark Akan in her first long film of Eyll Frtnas (September Storm) directed by Atf Ylmaz. As it was still continuing the repercussions of her first album, she brougt out the second called Boyut (Dimension) in 2000. It was shot music for video for all the folksongs at her album and distibuted as VCD. She drew attention by actin performance in the film of Deli Yrek (Crazy Heart) directed by Osman Snav in 2001. In 2002, she introduced to the market her third album Misafir (Guest) and zlenenler (Someone who is missed) consisting of 27 songs and two albums in 2003. As the first album of zlenenler, Zara gave a surprise to the music lovers singing Turkish art music for the first time.
