Excerpt: "You've Got a Friend in Me" is a song written and performed by Randy Newman (with Lyle Lovett during the credits) for the 1995 animated film Toy Story. It received nominations for best original song both the 1995 Academy Award for Best Original Song nomination and the 1996 Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song nomination although it lost to another Disney song, "Colors of the Wind" from Pocahontas. In 1999, for the soundtrack of Toy Story 2, both a cover by Robert Goulet and an instrumental by Tom Scott of the song were featured. The song was also performed by Riders in the Sky for their 2000 album "Woody's Roundup: A Rootin' Tootin' Collection of Woody's Favorite Songs," which consisted of songs pertaining to and inspired by Toy Story 2. The album won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Musical Album for Children. In 2005, Pixar re-released Toy Story in a 10th anniversary 2-DVD edition, which featured a new music video of "You've Got a Friend in Me," featuring Lyle Lovett and Randy Newman.
