Kasba (Town) consists of 9 wards and 22 mahallas. The area of the town is 4.40 km. It has a population of 15726; male 50.09%, female 49.91%; population density per km 3574. Literacy rate among the town people is 43.4%. Administration Kasba thana was established in 1908 and was turned into an upazila in 1983. The upazila consists of 10 union parishads, 160 mouzas and 236 villages. Archaeological heritage and relics Sree Sree Anandamoye Ashram at Kheora (seventeenth century), Bara Mosque at Kuti (eighteenth century). Historical events The ancient name of Kasba was Kailapar. During the Muslim rule in India it was named Kasba. Once Kasba was the temporary capital of Tripura State. It is believed that the king of Tripura established capital at Kasba after his defeat by the king of Kachhara. There are many archaeological relics of the time of the kings of Tripura. Dharma Saagar and Kalyan Saagar were excavated during the reigns of King Dharma Manikya and King Kalyan Manikya respectively.
