Applications of Supercomputers in Engineering, 3 - Proccedings of the Third International Conference on Applications of Supercomputers in Engineering Ase/93, September 27-29 1993, UK (Hardcover)

The increasing speed and expanded storage capacity of modern high-performance computers, together with new advanced numerical methods and programming techniques, have greatly improved the ability to solve complex engineering problems. As the power of the supercomputers grow, the complexity of the problems which can be solved also increases. The application of supercomputing for numerical intensive problems brings several new issues to the fore that do not appear in standard computing. New algorithms and codes are required in order to exploit effectively the use of these novel computer architectures. There is a constant need to bridge the gap between the hardware and software so that the new machines can be used to their full potential. This book presents the edited versions of papers presented at an international conference held in Bath, UK in September 1993. The purpose of the conference was to present the state of the art in new supercomputing applications particularly as they related to algorithms for parallelization, visualization and graphics, applications in fluid flow, applications in structural mechanics; software tools and environments, vector and parallel finite and boundary elements and massively parallel systems. This book will be of interest to mechanical, civil and aerospace engineers interested in the most recent developments in supercomputing applications.
