The French Magic Show tells of a brief wartime affair between an
illusive cafA(c) entertainer and a member of the British WAAFas,
who meet in Paris in the autumn of 1944 shortly after the cityas
liberation during WWII. He is on the move with his magic act, going
from city to city, and she is demobbed when she becomes pregnant.
The book recounts, with some humour and several surprises, the
consequences that the coupleas fateful reunion bring to a family
that is consumed by lies, ambition and greed; out to get what it
wants at any cost. The action starts in the war-torn Europe of 1944
and journeys through to the mid-fifties.
