Eddie is a friendless, gothic teenager who must endure the company
of an elderly man for at least one day. His English assignment is
to write a story about the old man's childhood and how he had come
to be a fiddle maker. To Eddie's way of thinking, nothing could be
more boring, and he resents this assignment. Everyone knows that
old people eat beans and cornbread, have lots of children, and
spend most of their time at the doctor's office. What else is there
to know about them?
