It isn't easy deciding on a lifelong mate. Fredrika finds that out soon enough, as does Gary. Like the rest of the human race, neither has the foggiest notion as to what makes a successful marriage, and it is soon obvious there is no such thing as prenuptial rationality. To Fredrika, marriage is like dipping water out of a pond-the liquid either stays in your palm or slips through your fingers.
