Stornoway - Flowers for Mary Ellen (Paperback, 2nd New edition)

Dunara crept slowly upon the glass-like surface of the harbour...floating on a mirror, she softly hissed onto the reflection of Lewis Castle...the passangers were busy observing the towns-folk of Stornoway and had not seen the castle which was now behind them. The passengers all turned together slowly, to stand open-mouthed facing the magnificence of Lewis Castle sitting proudly on a hill overlooking Stornoway. The castle stood majestic...like a crown with tiers, towers turrets reaching to the sky in splendour. As Dunara docked at the small jetty which led into the castle grounds, there existed the divide of the fifty yards stretch of the harbour's water...the small stretch of water which divided the rich from the poor. From a shadow within the shadows of the smoking room a voice spoke out for the first time, "And a marvelous job you have done sir...but what of your heir?...You are 59 years of age and have no children?"Sir Matheson knew the young twenty-four year old well, and was saddened by his remark, "You have always been outspoken Mr. Leverhulme and I have no doubt one day you will find your mark." The room was filled with laughter from the men and through the haze of the smoke young Leverhulme from Bolton, Lancashire was deep in thought...he swore to himself as God was his witness, that one day he would own the Castle and the Island of Lewis.
