Faced with swarming bats, falling boulders, deep caverns and underground tidal flows, Ralph searches for Jacob with the help of his close friends, a kind old man not ready to give up on life, and the most unexpected of all, the town bully. Throughout the search the boys face teenage angst, dangerous challenges and obstacles and learn more about themselves and each other than they would ever have thought possible.
