'Our George' is based on David Bret's controversial, best-selling biography, 'George Formby: A Troubled Genius'. It presents the no-holds-barred story of the legendary British entertainer George Formby, he of the toothy grin, ukulele, and risque but catchy songs, a man whose life was dominated firstly by a cantankerous, copiously vulgar mother, then by grasping siblings and a frequently overbearing and domineering wife, yet without whose nagging and shrewd business sense he would never have made it to the top. The play presents George Formby as an equally difficult but loving, womanising troubled genius, a man with an innate charisma who suffered for his art, and who only found true love when it was too late. OUR ANNIE'S FUNERAL is David Bret's humorous take on his grandmother's funeral, as seen through the eyes of her odd-bod sister, Kate.
