1913 Excerpt: ...for one thousand two hundred and ninety-six
($1,296.00) dollars. In November, 1907, by vote of the union, they
purchased the adjoining lawn for one thousand four hundred
($1,400.00) dollars, thereby increasing the size of the lawn to
three thousand six hundred and ninety six (3,696) square feet
Realizing the necessity of marking the graves of the deceased
brothers in a manner befitting such a beautiful lawn, many ideas
were discussed and plans investigated, but difference of opinion
between the cemetery officials and the committee, lack of finances,
absence of Bro. Bayliss (appointed organizer) and Bro. Bergen
(having taken a Clearance Card), and Bro. Imperial having resigned,
left the accomplishment of the seemingly impossible heritage to the
newly appointed committee, Bros. E.-T. Fuller, A. E. Smith, Allan
Park, J. Force and J. Gorf. The energy, progressive ideas and
energetic tenacity of the new committee speedily overcame every
obstacle and a judicious handling of finances by Bro. Fuller, with
the approv 1 of the union, enabled the committee to place upon the
lawn a central monument, artistic in design, beautiful in finish,
recording the names of the deceased and location of their
respective graves. This mass of carved granite is not only a
monument to the memory of the dead, but an exemplification of
perseverance and remembrance on the part of the living, and an
indisputable evidence to the world at large that Labor organized
fosters and encourages sincerity, kindliness and Brotherhood, the
