Originally, Dennis McKinney had no intention of writing a book. He started writing after his therapist suggested he try putting his thoughts down on paper and, at first, the results were very unstructured and paranoid, reflecting the anger, hatred, and pain in his heart. Over time - it was like a metamorphosis - he started to rhyme, and then to write with clarity, displaying less hatred and suspicion. His therapeutic writing started to reflect the beauty in the world around him, something he'd never been able to see in his life until then. His wife, Carol, suggested that he continue writing and put the poems in a book to help others who suffer mental illness. Before, he had been writing from a great need to express himself, to keep a certain degree of sanity, and then, later, to regain his sense of reason - but the thought of being able to help others excited him, and he felt an even greater urgency to write. As a result, we have "Midnight Revelations."
