This textual apparatus, which accompanies the text of the Geistreiches Gesangbuch by Johann Anastasius Freylinghausen, is divided into four parts. In addition to a bibliography, an outline index, editor's notes, and commentary on titles and registers, the major portion of the book is taken up with information about the authors and sources of each of the 758 songs in the collection. The conclusion consists of an appendix of texts and notes.
