Dr. Robert Gardner, EdD, spent many years of his life as a professional writer and academic ferreting out information dealing with the power of the dramatic form and why it seemed to exert such a compelling hold on the human imagination. This book sets out his findings and is designed to assist writers, students, and teachers to come to grips with what he calls "deep structure". Gardner, for years, was the Head of Media Writing at Toronto's famed Ryerson University (School of Radio and Television Arts, Faculty of Communication and Design). He was, concurrently, a successful media writer, columnist, and researcher. He has earned degrees from Ryerson (BAA), McMaster University (BA, MA), and a doctorate in curriculum theory from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education and the University of Toronto.
