It was prepared with a three-fold object in view; i. e., to serve as a review of lectures on biology and bacteriology given in the Lilly Sales Schools, to aid representatives in the use of other literature on Lilly Biologics, and to provide a reliable source of information on the elements of Biologic Therapy. It is very important that the representative should be able to discuss intelligently the theories underlying the manufacture and use of all the biologic products, to answer questions asked by physicians and others, and to have a genuine confidence in himself when talking biologics that will make a good impression on his customers. It is hoped that this little treatise may give enough of the fundamentals to make all these things possible. The question and answer form seemed best to meet the varying requirements, and so it is issued as a catechism. A number of teachers and students of pharmacy, having seen it, expressed a desire for copies, which led us to issue it as a pamphlet. In this form it is hoped that it will be useful to pharmacists and their clerks, as well as to Lilly representatives. ELI LILLY AND COMPANY STORE BIOLOGICS IN THE REFRIGERATOR The Pharmacopoeia, U. S. P. X., says that diphtheria and tetanus antitoxins should be preserved at a temperature between 4.5 C. and 20 C. (40 and 68 F.) and that smallpox vaccine virus must be kept at the lowest possible temperature, preferably below 0 C. and never above 5 C. (0 and 41 F.). Special re...
