Graduate of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris, he was fascinated by history, archaeology and distant civilisations. Architect of several churches and the first crematorium of Belgium, Lacoste produced a large body of work which is admired due to its originality and symbolic strength. He was also a brilliant professor at the Royal Academy of Arts of Brussels, and can be counted with Henry van de Velde and Victor Horta as the great Belgian teachers of the time.
