There are no better blankets and rugs in the world than are turned out from our mills, and the same may be said of the piece goods manufactured in Australia from Australian grown wool. The Commonwealth imported during the last year piece goods, "woollen or containing wool," to the value of 1,738,454, on which duty, at 15 per cent., was paid to the extent of /"267,19s, and flannels to the value of, "50,482, the duty paid being, at 15 per cent., . "7,574, whilst " woollens" upon the free list came in to the extent of, "22,419. The wages paid by the foreign producer of all the above mentioned goods should have been paid to our own workmen. If Australian men and women would only purchase Australian made woollens alone, they would, in a very large degree, help forward their own material prosperity.
