Cast: Kevin Costner, Amy Madigan, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta and Burt Lancaster. Well-known in America as “the film in which it’s OK for grown men to cry”; this is surely one of the finest pieces of cinema you’re ever likely to see! While working in his cornfield, Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner) hears a mysterious voice telling him “If you build it, he will come.” Needless to say, he doesn’t know what that means. To the initial horror of his otherwise delightfully supportive wife, Annie (Amy Madigan), Ray then proceeds to dig up nearly half his crop in order to build a full-size baseball field! Next, he must try to explain to her why he suddenly has to go to New York to speak with retired 1960s activist author Terence Mann (James Earl Jones). And what about piercingly blue-eyed Ray Liotta, and an elderly though still great-looking Burt Lancaster? Their roles slot into the story very nicely indeed thank you – as you will see when you check it out for yourself. While feeling good as you sit back and enjoy the movie itself, don’t overlook the equally pleasing Oscar-nominated musical score by James Horner (of “Titanic” fame.)
