SIR, AS little as I love Scandal, whatever side it comes from, I have prevail'd with my self, in Obedience to your Commands, to run over the Bundle you sent me; and knowing you to be a Person of that Integrity and Honour, as to have more regard to Truth than Party, I will without more Ceremony give you my Thoughts as you desire, upon such Parts of them as relate to the Management of the War, which I hope you will find not to be the less true or just for the Haste they are writ in; for plain Truths need no Disguise; Fiction and Ornament are of no Advantage, but when they serve a Cause, that can't bear to be seen in its true Light. This I hope will be Excuse enough, for the many Marks of Haste and Negligence you will meet with in this long Letrer.
