Spanish theater has experienced a remarkable renaissance in recent years. On the occasion of the 2013 PEN World Voices Festival in New York, eight plays by seven Spanish playwrights were brought together by the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, the Spanish Consulate in New York, Fundacion Autor, and the Instituto Cervantes for a two-day festival of readings and discussion at the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center, The Graduate Center, CUNY.

Representing the most innovative and respected voices working in contemporary Spanish theater, this selection of plays offers insight into the evolution of Spanish art and culture in context of the country's current situation. This anthology, published on the occasion of these readings, includes "Pakita" by Ernesto Caballero, "Promised Land" by Guillem Clua, "Happily Ever After" and "Typing" by Cristina Colemna, "Numbers" by Mar Gomez Glez, "Picasso and his Barber" by Borja Ortiz de Gondra, "On the Moon" by Alfredo Sanzol, and "Smartphones" by Emilio Williams.

Presented together, these plays represent the rich and varied landscape of contemporary Spanish theater. Three of the eight plays included in this volume appear in both Spanish and English and may therefore be used as a study in translation for artists, scholars, and translators.
