Located on the Tigris River, it is the largest hydroelectric power plant of the project. It is estimated that 135 m high dam will create a reservoir with a maximum volume of 10400000000 m3 (3.7x1011 cu ft) and a surface area of 313 km2 (121 sq mi) creating a power capacity of 1,200 MW and is expected to produce 3,800 GWh of power per year. Construction started on August 5, 2006, was halted after international funding was lost in December 2008 but began again in July 2009.
