With nearly 9,900 officers and more than 3,000 civilian staff, covering an area of 473 square miles (1,230 km2) with a population of more than 3.8 million people, it is one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the United States.The LAPD has been heavily fictionalized in numerous movies and television shows throughout its history.
