A member of the governing People's Action Party, he is currently the country's Minister for National Development. Mah was educated at St Michael's School and St Joseph's Institution. He then received the President's Scholarship and Colombo Plan Scholarship to study at the University of New South Wales in Australia, where graduated in 1971 with a First Class Honours degree in Industrial Engineering, winning the University Medal.
