Organised Crime Involvement in Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, 38 - (Ircp Series, Vol. 38) (Paperback)

This book presents the results of a research project conducted for the United Nations' Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) which explores the links between organized crime, trafficking in persons, and smuggling of migrants. Developing appropriate criminal justice responses requires a knowledge-based response. However, one of the core findings of the research project is that the evidence-base for criminal involvement in these phenomena today is still woefully inadequate. On the basis of the findings, the book gives recommendations for the future of tackling organized, as well as unorganized, criminal involvement in trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants. New light is shed in this respect on the adequacy of the UN's Convention on Transnational Organized Crime and its Trafficking and Smuggling Protocols. It is essential reading for policy makers, judicial and law enforcement authorities, the research community, and academics with an interest in the phenomena of organized crime, trafficking in persons, and/or smuggling of migrants around the globe.
