Teveriwo is a pure fantasy, from which each reader must draw his own conclusion. It was begun in Paris, in 1845, and finished in the country, without any plan, and with no other end in view, than that of painting an original character, a strange destiny, improbable to people of rank, but well known to those who have mingled freely with the various classes of artists. These natures, so admirably endowed, which cannot or will not employ to advantage the rich faculties of their minds in the drudgery of official society, are not rare; and this independence, this idleness, this exaggerated disinterestedness, is even the proper tendency of minds so peculiarly the recipients of the gifts of Providence.
