Cambridge Reading is a new reading scheme which provides books and support materials for the teaching of reading throughout the primary years. Key features include: a coherent yet flexible structure for teaching and learning; a variety of picture books; a balance of text types and genres, including stories, poems and information books; an integrated phonics programme; and support materials. This is one of the books in the Becoming a Reader stage. Coming under the Stories of Childhood strand, each story is true - a retelling of a significant event from someones childhood. While some of the stories are set in modern Britain, others take place in the 1930s or 1940s in locations as diverse as Hong Kong and Trinidad.
